IMPROVEMENT OF THE STRUCTURES AND EFFICIENCY OF SMALL HORIZONTAL AXIS WIND GENERATORS WITH NON-REGULATED BLADES
PROJECT SUMMARY

The purpose of the project is to create a full scale operative wind generator based on newly developed technology, with the overall objective of reducing the cost of the energy produced and the impact on the environment, as well as increasing the use of renewable energy. The project promoter offers previous research and interdisciplinary research teams with considerable, long-term experience in small wind power generators and expertise in such type of projects.

A sustainable power solution for remote and scarcely populated areas will be tested and refined in the course of the projects, as an alternative to large scale wind farms. Study and research of horizontal turbine types and construction will be performed, as well as analysis and research on cost reduction possibilities.

The expected result of the project is an improvement of the efficiency of the small wind generators and simplifying their construction so that an overall price reduction will make them more attractive for use in urban areas, as well as in remote areas where the electricity grid is not yet in place.

A fully functional, real-life prototype will be entirely manufactured and assembled by “Politehnica” University of Timisoara, Timis County, as one of the project’s results in order to test newly-designed rotors and electronic power converters. The prototype wind generator will be installed in a remote area in Timisoara with an identified, suitable wind pattern.
